american gangster
so, yesterday morning, katie and i are sitting in our living room when what appears to be snow starts falling outside our window. i say to katie, "it can't be snowing; it's too warm." i put my arm out the window and wait to catch a flake in my hand. i did, and when i press the flake between my finger it decompresses to something like soot. then, katie checks a message from her boyfriend who had left that morning -- telling her they're filming a movie outside our apartment! so, katie and i put on pants and rush outside. they were in fact filming a movie (hence, the fake snow) right on our block (103rd and Lexington Avenue)! we stand on the sidewalk, and this chick tells us we can't go any further. so, we stand there, and take in the scene. it's obviously a movie set in the 70s because everybody in the cast is wearing 70s garb. there are cars from the 70s lining the street and they even brought in an old telephone booth! there's a rack of cool 70s clothes right outside our door, and we're really tempted to steal something ... or some food from the food table. so then, we notice they're about to shoot another shot, we look up, and there is denzel fucking washington standing in a truck handing out food to this group of people. DENZEL WASHINGTON on our block! just there, being filmed in a movie. so, katie asks the chick what the movie's called, and she says "american gangster." so, we had our fill, came upstairs and checked it out on imdb. so, it's a movie set in harlem in the 70s. russell crowe is in it too!
big, exciting, eh?
the funny thing, of course, that the movie they're filming in our neighborhood is called american gangster ... and it's about a heroin dealer in harlem in the 70s. that's our neighborhood for you!
